A Health Promotion Curriculum for Child Health Professionals

Pediatrics in Practice
is a Bright Futures-based health promotion curriculum designed to teach educators how to effectively convey health promotion content to child health professionals. The curriculum also offers tools to integrate health promotion activities into clinical practice. It has been written and evaluated by the Bright Futures Health Promotion Workgroup, composed of pediatricians, educators, parents, and nurses from around the country.

Pediatrics in Practice facilitates achievement of several core competencies necessary for clinical practice. Through the use of core concepts (Partnership, Communication, Health Promotion, Time Management, Education, and Advocacy) and teaching strategies (Reflective Exercise, Case Discussion, Mini-Presentation, Role Play, Brainstorming, and Buzz Group). child helath educators will prepare their learners with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to communicate effectively, partner with and educate children and families as their advocate to promote health and prevent illness in a time efficient manner.

The site's curriculum resources provide additional materials that can be used in parallel with the curriculum. Community resources are provided to biuld a community of learners interested in improving the health of children and their families through the integration of health promotion activities in their daily lives. The curriculum is available in both online and print formats. The web site enhances and supplements the curriculum with various resources and self-directed elearning module.
